Here are a few photos of the sights of Bovino.

This is the main street in Bovino, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. This photo was taken from the Villa Comunale facing up hill towards the old part of town.

This is the archway known as Porta Maggiore that leads from Corso Vittorio Emanuele II into the the old part of town

This photo shows Bovino as seen from the
top of Montecastro, the hill to the south of Bovino.
The cluster of trees is the Villa
Comunale, Immediately above the Villa you can see Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
To the left of the arch you can see the the castle, Il Castello.

This photo shows Il Castello, the castle which was once the home of the duke of Bovino. For those with an interest in Norman defensive architecture, the castle has a magnificent example of a chevalier tower, that is a tower built on inclined curtain walls.

Here is the marble statue of Duke Inigo Velez De Guevara, viceroy of Naples at the time of King Phillip IV of Spain. This statue can be found along with many other priceless artefacts in the Castle. The fact that Bovino was once ruled by the Spanish is evident today in the local dialect.

This clock tower is part of the castle. The clock mechanism installed in the tower dates from 1624.

This photo shows the church of San
Pietro, Saint Peter.
This is one of the older churches in
the town, and was originally built as a temple to the Roman god Hercules.
This church was the Cathedral before
the current building was complete, and is notable today for a painting
inside of the martyrdom of Saint Peter.

This is a mid day view of the Villa Comunale where the neat rows of horse chestnut trees provide shade from the sun.

This is the new fountain outside San
Antonio.
Note that the door on the left is the
entrance to the civic museum named after Carlo Gaetano Nicastro.

This ruin can be found just outside Bovino on the road to Panni and Acadia. It is part of an an ancient Roman aqueduct which carried water to Bovino.

This is the cathedral which dates from the 10th century.

These sheep and goats graze on the hills around Bovino. Next time you are served a piece of pecorino or a slice of capretto in a Bovino restaurant, you know where it came from.

This modern sculpture can be found in the San Martino district.
