la Torre a cavaliere di Bovino by Ester Lorusso
is a book originally written as the author's graduation thesis. Its 111
pages form an academic study of the tower attached to the castle in
Bovino. Like many books connected to Bovino, there are numerous
photographs. Unusually however there are a number of hand drawn
sketches, some drawn with the eye of an draughtsman, others with the eye
of an artist.

At 697 pages, La Città di Bovino nel Catasto Onciario is
a heavyweight book, with a heavyweight purpose. It is a collection of
transcripts of land registry documents detailing every household in
Bovino as it was in 1741.
These documents were originally produced under the orders of Charles
of Bourbon when he was king of Naples and Sicily between 1735 and 1759.
Vincenzo Maulucci and Paolo Lombardi have undertaken the task of
transcribing these original handwritten documents into a form that can
be bought by everyone. A truly invaluable tool for any serious
genealogist or anyone else who wants to own a copy of a remarkable piece
of socio-economic history. It was published in 2007 |

Bovino, l'Urbino del Sud? by Gabriele Consiglio
The Renaissance city of Urbino (by Pesaro, Marche) is used as a point
of comparison with Bovino. Historical and cultural parallels are drawn,
showing the beauty and importance of Bovino. It is a particularly useful
reference for Bovino’s Roman origins. It also explains how the Guevara
family influenced local architecture It was published in 1993 |

Scritti Varii by Michele Croce Compiled in
1939, this book is a unique resource. It contains direct reference to
older historical writings, many of which date back to the Middle Ages.
For example it contains an authoritative account of the apparitions of
the Madonna of Valleverde. Equally interesting is the way it is written
from a Fascist point of view.

Flash by Gabriele Consiglio. Much more than a
book of Bovinese poetry, it is a celebration of the Bovinese dialect and
culture. Gabriele Consiglio’s poems perfectly capture the sights and
sounds that make Bovino such an interesting place. The book includes
parallel texts in “proper” Italian.
It was published in 2004.

I Vescovi di Bovino by Cesare Durante is a short
but meticulously researched historical study of the bishops of Bovino.
It catalogues all the Bishops from Giovanni I of AD 971 to Alfredo
Russo of 1937. Of particular interest is his writing on Bishop Ugone of
1099, who is believed to have initiated the building work on Bovino
Cathedral.

I Signori di Bovino by Cesare Durante is another
short historical study, this time of the feudal rulers of Bovino. It was published in 1952,

opposite sides of the bottom of Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
